Family 7-5-2 Prayer Calendar - Home

Parents are by far the most important spiritual leaders a child will have in their lifetime. Reasearch has shown that over the course of a year a local church only has about 40-50 hours of quality time to invest in the life of a child or student. In that same year a parent typically has somewhere around 3,000 hours to invest into their child or student. Mom's and Dad's are more valuable than anyone or anything as we run this marathon and lead children to love God.

We thought one tool you may find helpful to use is a Gathering Family Prayer Calendar. We will be posting it on the Gathering website this weekend. Rather than just another thing to do on your list, we hope it can be thrown into the rhythm of the day during routines that already exist in your home. The calendar is based on the idea of committing to being a "7-5-2" family, by praying 7 times a week individually, 5 times a week as a family, and 2 times a week with your spouse. If you are a single parent or without children in the home, you could still use it by tailoring it to your specific situation, such as praying with a friend 2 times a week, etc. It could be an awesome tool to start a small change that can make a big difference!

Spring is around the corner and it's time to start planning our confirmation experience for students in grades 8-12. Here's a brief rundown. For more info, read the entire article posted below!

This course is open to all 8th graders as well as older students who have not yet been confirmed. We have a wide mix of age groups so all will feel comfortable! Confirmation classes will be held each Sunday night starting March 7th from 7:00-8:30 and conclude on May 2nd.

Read on for more info...

What is confirmation? Quite literally, confirmation is an act or process of confirming:- as a Christian rite conferring the gift of the Holy Spirit and among Protestants full church membership (Meriam-Webster).

Specifically, confirmation in our context is more than a rite of passage or prerequisite for becoming a member of a church. Confirmation is the reality of students living into the commitments made at baptism by parents desiring to raise their children in the Christian faith. Baptism is not required to participate in confirmation classes but will be an appropriate step of faith at the conclusion of our course.

Confirmation is an opportunity for students to deepen, and have the worshipping body at The Gathering, confirm their faith in Jesus Christ, learn the basics of Christianity, and understand what it means to identify with the Presbyterian and universal church family. Simply put, confirmation is a chance for students to deepen their understanding of Christian faith and then have an opportunity to make a public, real profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.

Why does Jesus matter? And what does that mean to me? These are a couple of key questions that we want to help students understand. Our deepest prayer is that through this experience, coupled with other youth group activities, students will come to know Christ, be drawn to him and decide for themselves that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

We are excited to announce that we have a plan to have such an opportunity available for our students every spring.

The Gathering at Windsor’s third confirmation class will meet for eight weeks this spring on Sunday nights from 7:00-8:30 starting March 7th. Please see the attached .pdf for a schedule and reading assignments!

Due to the nature of the material (weekly reading assignments/journaling/creation of a written faith statement) and the cognitive level of most students, we are offering this class for students starting in grade 8 and would encourage any non-confirmed student through grade 12 to join us as well! We also ask that you make a commitment to this process and give it the participation it deserves. With that in mind since we only have eight classes we ask that you not miss more than one class in the series. That being said, if it doesn’t fit your schedule this year, we would welcome your participation next year.

If you would like to be included in the third confirmation class at The Gathering, simply go to our website (www.thegatheringatwindsor.org) and look up the high school or middle school page and sign up where it prompts you to register for the course. The course work and other details will be posted on our website very soon. Please check there for specifics. There is a nominal cost ($15) to purchase the two books we’ll be using. Please sign up by February 15th if you plan to attend.

Questions call Pat 217-5026.

Peace,

Sunday Morning DYNO! - Middle School

Dyno launches once again Fall 2009 September 13th! Hope to see you there!

What's Dyno??

Dyno is a rock climbing term used to describe: a dynamic movement towards a far off hold, an all points off leap! So why do we call our Sunday morning program for MS and HS students Dyno? It's a cool image of what it means to take that leap of faith, to bodly let go and leap towards our God... However, unlike the definition of Dyno, what I hope we all discover is that Jesus isn't a far off hold!

Join us each Sunday morning (except the first Sunday of every month students stay in the service the whole time) at The Gathering 10:00 a.m. for Dyno. Dyno is for all Middle School and High School students who want to dig a little deeper in their faith. We will meet with leaders, be introduced to different topics, and then break up into age appropriate groups. You're invited! Hope to see you soon at DYNO!

Confirmation at The Gathering - Confirmation

Dear Parents and Students,

What is confirmation? Quite literally, confirmation is an act or process of confirming: as a (1): a Christian rite conferring the gift of the Holy Spirit and among Protestants full church membership (Meriam-Webster).

Specifically, confirmation is more than a rite of passage or prerequisite for becoming a member of a church. Confirmation is actually a living into the commitments made at baptism by parents desiring to raise their children in the Christian faith.

All eighth grade students and older non-confirmed students are welcome to join us (through grade 12). Our class runs from January through May each year.

Please check back here for next year's confirmation class information. We plan to start January 2010. Check back!

Greetings!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out what's happening at The Gathering Student Ministries! We are excited to announce that Young Life/Wyldlife Northern Colorado and The Gathering Student have been partners since 2007!

Younglife Club is for High Schoolers: Monday from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Wyldlife Club is for Middle Schoolers: Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m.

You may be asking yourself, "What does this mean?" "What's different?” Those are great questions and I’ll try to answer them here.

1. What does this mean?

Simply put, we love students; we love Jesus and His word. With this in mind, we are launching a large outreach plan to introduce students to Jesus and His word so that they too can experience a life with the Savior. Young Life is an organization that does this better than anyone else by meeting students on their turf, being present at the schools, at games, and even sharing meals.

Philosophically, The Gathering Student Ministries has always meshed with this goal. By partnering with Young Life we are opening new doors of networking with regional Young Life Staff and great training opportunities. Moreover, Young Life has a reputation for loving students and we want people who might recognize the name to understand what we are about...loving Jesus and loving students into a relationship with Jesus.

2. What's different?

Well, not much. Essentially we have been running a “Young Life” type ministry already. However, there will be some changes that will be immediately noticeable.

Firstly, the groups identity will now be YoungLife@thegathering.

Secondly, we will be shortening our weekly meetings for a more focused time with the addition of “hang-out” time at the end. Our “club” (which is the weekly meeting) times will be on Monday and Wednesday Nights from 7-8:30 pm and will rotate to different peoples homes. Club each week will be full of energy, music, games and a brief talk. This evening will intentionally not be too deep.

We will also be starting something called “campaigners”. By way of explanation, Campaigners will be a time for students to match up with an adult leader to have a meal or coffee and talk more in depth about life and faith. This will be a great opportunity for students and adults alike to develop and grow in their faith.

Dear Parents,

I am a parent! I can understand some of your struggles and I believe being a parent has helped me to become a better youth leader and communicator. That being said, this page is for you. I desire to know you and work with you as we endeavor to make a Gospel impact on the lives of your children!

I am the Director of Student Ministries for The Gathering at Windsor which is partnering with Northern Colorado Young Life. Besides spending time with students, I spend time with adults and train them how to hang out with kids and share the love of Christ with them so that as they grow in years, they are able to develop their own relationship with Jesus Christ and in turn share Jesus, and the promise of His love with their friends and family! In essence, I am training adults to be youth pastors to a variety of kids so that we can reach as many students as possible. The youth leader can't be all things to all people so he/she must place other adults in positions of ministry.

Why am I saying all this to you now on the Parent Connections Page of our ministries website? Because the most effective youth pastors for students are their parents. As a parent you can have a far greater impact on the lives of your kids-bar none! If you have a desire to raise your child in the Christian faith, then your duty and obligation is to give your children the time and tools necessary to help them understand their faith, to know what the Bible says, to grow as they learn more.

I would love to help you! I very much want to be a resource for you as you raise your child in the Faith. I can help with offering suggestions on books and study materials. I can also help when times of crisis arise. I have been involved with parent/child mediation, alcohol and drug abuse discussions, students with 'cutting' problems, and a wide variety of other pertinent issues and stumbling blocks in the lives of both parents and adults.

I would love your help as well! Contact me if you would like to become involved in any aspect of the ministry. I would be excited to talk with you about the possibility of this ministry to see if it's a right fit for you. Despite what your kids may say, they want you involved in their lives! If you would like to volunteer to help participate in special events, that would be great too! Mostly, I would hope to have your support as you encourage your child to become active in following Jesus. I pray that you will join us as we embark on this adventure in ministry together.

In the meantime, Please find at the bottom of this article some links to webpages that I frequent, they often have tips and articles for parents. Check it out!

Peace to you,

Our Story...Only The Beginning! - Who We Are

The Gathering at Windsor is a body of people who joyfully desire to gather together with Christ at the center and join Him in His mission of gathering to Himself those not yet gathered. In the fall of 2004 a handful of people who desired to "do" and "be" the church in a different way began to meet, pray and envision a new church. Words like authenticity, community, truth, and love filled our vocabulary and our lives. We begin to gather for worship and our first Easter celebration was in 2005. Others in the Windsor area began to gather with us as we reached out with the message of God's love. In October of 2008, we officially "chartered" as a church in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In December 2008 we were gifted 17.8 acres of land by our Presbytery for a future church facility as we continue to grew in breadth and depth. Today over 275 adults and children consider The Gathering their church.
In all of this our goal is not to make more Presbyterians but to help others discover the joy of what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. So, no matter your what your background is, there is a place at The Gathering. This is just the beginning...we would love you to gather with us as we continue to discover what it means to follow Jesus Christ. Come be a part of the adventure!

The Bread Basket is our children's ministry. Like Jesus, we love kids!!! And, they love coming to The Gathering. On any given Sunday there are over 65 kids in our Sunday School program and growing fast! Our desire is to see them grow in God's love through an incredible group of servants who nurture them, producing an abundant "bread basket" of lives shaped by Christ!

Nursery: birth through toddlers The Nursery is staffed by trained, paid, professional caregivers each Sunday.
Preschool Sunday School Class: 3 and 4 year oldsThese children don't just play--although there is plenty of that! They are also learning age appropriate bible truths.
BreadBasket Ministry:All Kindergarten through 5th grade students participate in a large group and small group(age related) format called "Living Inside Out" which is an exciting new curriculum by Group Publishing.

Our Beliefs - Our Beliefs

This brief list of beliefs reveal what we to believe to be the central truths of the Christian faith as revealed in Scripture and held by the church historic. Thus, we view these beliefs to be foundational components of what it means to be Christian, recognizing that there will be a variety of ways that these truths are applied without compromising their essence. We also recognize that there are other important teachings found in scripture in which Christians may disagree, affirming the importance of individual conscience with respect to these matters.

The Bible | The bible is our unique and authoritative source of truth as the infallible written Word of God. We believe the Old and New Testaments are a unified witness to God's redemptive acts culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, Jesus Christ. The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority in all matters of practice and faith.

One God | We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ | We believe Jesus Christ to be the living Word, truly human and truly God. We believe in his virgin birth, his life, miracles, and teachings, and that he died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. On the third day he rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God. We believe Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of the world and the sole mediator between God and humanity.

The Holy Spirit | The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ and applies the saving work of Christ to each of us personally. He reveals to us the love of God, convicts us of sin, leads us in discernment, and provides the spiritual gifts necessary for mission and ministry. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells the life of every believer and is a deposit guaranteeing our eternal salvation.

Salvation | Being separated from God because of sin, we believe that our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of God's free grace. We believe that each of us is called to respond in faith to the grace offered to us in Christ, living a life of discipleship in which we experience in part the eternal life that will come in fullness when Christ returns.

The Return of Christ | Jesus Christ will come again to the earth—personally, visibly, and bodily—to judge the living and the dead, bringing the fullness of salvation to those who trust in Him.

The Church | The true Church is composed of all persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, are united together as the body of Christ. The Church finds her visible expression in local congregations and is an imperfect but chosen representative of the Kingdom of God, bearing witness to Gospel of God's reign.

The Great Commission | Jesus commands all believers to bear witness to the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in his name. Obedience to the Great Commission is a response the the mission of God (Missio Dei) which is fully manifest in the person of Jesus Christ. This mission calls us to a life of self-denying love and service.

Our Core Values - Our Core Values

Authentic Relationships
We value relationships with one another and with Christ that are personal, loving, honest and truthful. In our worship and Christian living we appropriate our reformed heritage and traditions of the church historic in ways that inform our faith without degradating the authenticity of a faith that is personal, dynamic and growing.
"True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth." (John 4:23)

Thoughtful Faith
Grounded in the infallible Word of God, we value Spirit led and prayerful consideration of how matters of faith and life intersect; seeking to understand and articulate our faith in our context with a depth of consideration that honors both Christ as our Lord and Savior and the dignity of those created in His image.
“But we have the mind of Christ.” (1Corinthians 2:16)

Kingdom Perspective
We value a Kingdom perspective in our discipleship and ministry, honoring such things as truth over deception, faithfulness over success, excellence over perfectionism, creativity over routine, joy over duty, obedience over pleasure, servant-hood over power, simplicity over indulgence, stewardship over greed, and things eternal over things temporary.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness.” (Matthew 6:33)

Missional Identity
We value the missional identity of every believer and of Christ’s particular and universal church. In a self-focused world we seek to live outwardly focused lives; growing as disciples who bear witness to love of God in our respective spheres of influence through the cultivation of meaningful relationships with and acts of service towards those outside Christ’s church.
"I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered." (Isaiah 56:8)

Presbyterian Global Fellowship - Links of Interest

PGF is a fellowship of congregations seeking to reclaim the missional purpose of the church through:
--Renewed focus on the Great Ends of the Church;
--Christ-centered evangelistic mission being initiated from the entire global Christian community; and
--Connecting congregations with congregations worldwide to enrich Christ's mission through the sharing of best practices. This fellowship is our sincere attempt to steer a different course amidst today's PC(USA) crisis. To those who would leave we say that we believe there is much that is effective and biblically faithful within our Presbyterian family which can be refocused toward mission. To those who favor the status quo we say that dwindling membership, declining giving and increasing fragmentation within our church strongly indicate the need to move beyond business as usual.
