Confirmation 2010!
Spring is around the corner and it's time to start planning our confirmation experience for students in grades 8-12. Here's a brief rundown. For more info, read the entire article posted below!
This course is open to all 8th graders as well as older students who have not yet been confirmed. We have a wide mix of age groups so all will feel comfortable! Confirmation classes will be held each Sunday night staring March 7th from 7:00-8:30 and conclude on May 2nd.

What is confirmation? Quite literally, confirmation is an act or process of confirming:- as a Christian rite conferring the gift of the Holy Spirit and among Protestants full church membership (Meriam-Webster).
Specifically, confirmation in our context is more than a rite of passage or prerequisite for becoming a member of a church. Confirmation is the reality of students living into the commitments made at baptism by parents desiring to raise their children in the Christian faith. Baptism is not required to participate in confirmation classes but will be an appropriate step of faith at the conclusion of our course.
Confirmation is an opportunity for students to deepen, and have the worshipping body at The Gathering, confirm their faith in Jesus Christ, learn the basics of Christianity, and understand what it means to identify with the Presbyterian and universal church family. Simply put, confirmation is a chance for students to deepen their understanding of Christian faith and then have an opportunity to make a public, real profession of their faith in Jesus Christ.
Why does Jesus matter? And what does that mean to me? These are a couple of key questions that we want to help students understand. Our deepest prayer is that through this experience, coupled with other youth group activities, students will come to know Christ, be drawn to him and decide for themselves that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!
We are excited to announce that we have a plan to have such an opportunity available for our students every spring.
The Gathering at Windsor’s third confirmation class will meet for eight weeks this spring on Sunday nights from 7:00-8:30 starting March 7th. Please see the attached .pdf for a schedule and reading assignments!
Due to the nature of the material (weekly reading assignments/journaling/creation of a written faith statement) and the cognitive level of most students, we are offering this class for students starting in grade 8 and would encourage any non-confirmed student through grade 12 to join us as well! We also ask that you make a commitment to this process and give it the participation it deserves. With that in mind since we only have eight classes we ask that you not miss more than one class in the series. That being said, if it doesn’t fit your schedule this year, we would welcome your participation next year.
If you would like to be included in the third confirmation class at The Gathering, simply go to our website (www.thegatheringatwindsor.org) and look up the high school or middle school page and sign up where it prompts you to register for the course. The course work and other details will be posted on our website very soon. Please check there for specifics. There is a nominal cost ($15) to purchase the two books we’ll be using. Please sign up by February 15th if you plan to attend.

Sunday Morning DYNO!
What's Dyno??
Dyno starts again this fall! September 13, 2009.
Dyno is a rock climbing term used to describe: a dynamic movement towards a far off hold, an all points off leap! So why do we call our Sunday morning program for MS and HS students Dyno? It's a cool image of what it means to take that leap of faith, to bodly let go and leap towards our God... However, unlike the definition of Dyno, what I hope we all discover is that Jesus isn't a far off hold!
Join us each Sunday morning (except the first Sunday of every month students stay in the service the whole time) at The Gathering 10:00 a.m. for Dyno. Dyno is for all Middle School and High School students who want to dig a little deeper in their faith. We will meet with leaders, be introduced to different topics, and then break up into age appropriate groups. You're invited! Hope to see you soon at DYNO!
